Oh hi there…it’s been a while since I last logged on and did something other than drool over Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Welp, North Coast Weekend is here or Labor Day Weekend if you’re old school and particular about these sorts of things. Below are a few artists worth seeing and if you’re not going to NCMF the why don’t you check back throughout the weekend to see the usual awful stage shots I am prone to taking and we can judge the kids’ and their crazy fashions together.

North Coast stole my heart last year and again with this year’s line up. The festival turns a big magnifying glass to the city’s local talent even dedicating an entire stage to up-and-coming local artists.

First up is the Chicago-based production team known as The Hood Internet who will bring their mash ups of hip hop with indie to the Red Bull Groove Stage on Friday at 4;30p. There a ton of tracks and several mixtapes available at their SoundCloud page and I’ve posted one below but do check it out and dig in.

Perfect Kiss the self described “new wave revivalists” hail from the Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods so shouts out to my childhood stomping grounds. They hit all the right spots with their synth heavy pop that are perfect for a late summer evening. They’ll hit the Magic Hat Local Stage on Friday at 6:15p.

Midnight Conspiracy: Chicago’s own party starting duo will hit the Magic Hat Local Stage at 9 up against headliners David Guetta and Wiz Khalifa. Here’s the song that opened the flood gates:

Last year’s inaugural run of North Coast Music Festival was a blast and a half and I even got to meet and tweet with Interactive Amy!  From The Chemical Brothers’ stunning visuals, Flying Lotus’ mesmerizing set, Moby finally winning me over, to the gorgeous sounds of Loyal Divide, it was an impressive start to what I hope will be a long-running festival in Chicago.  This was all covered extensively on this site and I’m going to blow it up again this year with artist previews in the weeks leading up to the fest and tons of post-fest coverage.  Six headliners were announced last week when 3 day passes officially went for sale ($95 + fees; single day passes will be available in May for $40).  [Sidebar: How insane was it that tickets via the Groupon offer sold out so fast?! I went to bed at midnight and when I woke up later that morning they were gone.  You kids don’t mess around when it comes to getting a deal.]  A few more names have rolled out and organizers will announce 50+ more acts that will be atUnionPark, September 2-4, 2011. Get your tickets and glo-sticks ready!

So far we know the following artists have been announced:

- Common

- David Guetta

- Gogol Bordello

- Little Dragon

- Lotus

- Neon Indian

- Rubblebucket

- Thievery Corporation

- Van Ghost (our pals who were awesome last year)

- Wiz Khalifa

- Wolfgang Gartner

Preview 2 – Our second featured can’t miss band is Loyal Divide.  Formed about 5 years ago, the band currently resides in Chicago and is gearing up for the September 2010 release of their first full length LP Bodice Ripper. They’ve released two previous EPs: Loyal Divide E.P. and Labrador, both available on iTunes. Their sound is all about textured psychedelic-electronic-pop full of quirky electronic sounds, gliding vocals and angelic/atmospheric synths.  Below is the video for “Vision Vision” off their digital 7″ DDF which is available as a free download on their bandcamp site.  The video is done is live action done with gaff tape and directed by BBGUN – it’s pretty fucking cool.  They’ll hit the Groupon Stage at North Coast on Sunday at 1:45 p.m. – BE THERE!
