The Taste of Chicago is gross.  It is riff raff central and the thought of donning a kevlar vest in the middle of summer to eat a fat turkey leg is not my idea of a good time BUT sometimes the organizers throw us a bone by way of lining up interesting artists to perform at the free daily concerts at the Petrillo Band Shell.  Several stand alone festivals were “folded” into the Taste this year because the city has been losing money  (Viva/Latin Music Fest and Gospel Fest to name a couple).  ANYWAY.  Some highlights: June 25th’s schedule boasts a nice line up of some of my favorite local talents, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Loretta Lynn (headlining July 1) and Natalie Cole (headlining June 30).  This year’s full line up was released today and is below.

This month, Archie Powell & The Exports will release a new cover each week over on their ol YouTube channel.  The first installment finds the band and friends hamming it up to a faithful and fun cover of The Beatles’ The Ballad of John & Yoko.

It’s Tuesday and I’m already done with this week. Today I share with you all the stuff I looked at online this morning instead of working (lots of Arcade Fire in this post – WHO?!).

Bonnaroo’s lineup is up and its actually a really solid lineup. Of note: Eminem (who it is rumored will also be at Lolla), GRAMMY AWARD winners Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket (who have to hurry up and give me a release date for the new album), Grace-Fucking-Potter & The Nocturnals, Loretta Lynn, Mavis Staples and The Walkmen. The announcement came via Conan O’Brien:

And finally, XRT is looking for interns, if you’re into that sorta thing.

I dragged myself away from the premiere of Jersey Shore last night to head out to Lincoln Hall.  I missed Photographs and I’m very sorry about that because I heard they were fantastic.  Milano has gained a new fan (me) and Archie Powell & The Exports left the kids dancing and begging for more.  It was the kind of night that reminds me of how much I love this city – so full of talent and great venues.
