Tons to do, here are 3:

It’s Dre Day! The Reader has an insightful article on the history of Dre Day to bring you up to speed. It all goes down tonight at Double Door with Mic Terror, The Jordan Years, The Opus and DJ sets by The Comeups, Trew, Big Once and Kool Hersch. There’ll be swag bags, $20 Sack Pyramid, a photobooth and all sorts of other fun beginning at 9pm, 21+, advance tickets $10 and can be bought here, otherwise it’ll set you back $12 at the door.

Tomorrow night at Cole’s: a rare performance by psych/experimental indie rockers Canyon with The Paver and Soft Candy. Free, 21+, 9pm

And finally on Sunday, (((Sonorama))) will be at Cobra spinning the most danceable and funky tunes for everyone. Never a cover, 9pm, always free with tons of drink specials and a little something extra if you wink at Decker.

I’m not one to get sentimental but today is Thanksgiving and I’ve been thinking a lot about all the things I’m grateful for.  I’m fortunate enough to have a family that despite not always understanding my obsession with music is nonetheless supportive.  I’m grateful for you – sitting there reading this.  Thanks for coming to this site, for the feedback and for the proofreading help (Lord knows I need it).  Thanks for sending me tips on bands/artists you think I should check out.  Thanks for commenting, for participating but especially for being a part of my community.  Thank you to the bands and artists who have graciously answered questions and opened up to yours truly allowing me to share their music with you.  Wherever you find yourself on this day, I hope you’re surrounded by friends and family that appreciate you as much as I do and that you’re all safe and healthy with full bellies and lots of booze.  Thanks bitches!!

I’m getting ready to head out the door and induce a music coma at North Coast Festival but before I do let’s talk about some of the fun stuff going on around town this long weekend:

First up is Brighton Park Fest. Starting tomorrow you can head out to Archer Ave (between Sacramento & Kedzie) for food, rides and 2 stages of live music featuring local acts: [.DESCARGA.] (my favorite latin alternative band), Maladicto, Legion, Soul Pollution, Maria Blues Trio, the lovely La Gitana, Malafacha and DJs Angelfuk and Nando to name just a few.  Descarga’s very own Jose Calvo says, “people should come out and enjoy this festival because it’s something special for the community, there are few festivals like this in the city that celebrate latino unity, but the number of them is growin! So come out and enjoy the food, the rides, the arts, and the music, which will be awesome because the line ups are made up of talented local latino bands. I am very honored to be part of this great festival.”

Also, don’t forget that last weekend’s featured girl crush, Rita J will be at Schuba’s Saturday night with Bumpus.

Jazz Fest returns to Grant Park and the always awesome Chuchito Valdez goes on Saturday at 5.

Lastly, the inaugural run of Joyous Outdoor Event (J.O.E.) kicks off at South Belmont Harbor this weekend featuring a main stage ‘curated’ by the Metro and Smart Bar and will include hometown rocks The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir Saturday at 7p.  A $15 ticket gets you all day general admission, for $25 you get all day access plus entrance to that evening’s main stage.  You can get the full schedule and more info HERE.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Labor Day Weekend! Check back for North Coast recaps, follow me on Twitter for live updates and check out the Facebook page for more photos and video.

Today the glorious drunken tan beast known as The Hoff (government name: David Hasselhoff) turns a young and spry 58! I could sit here and wax nostalgic on my memories of The Hoff but what justice could I possibly do to the man responsible for the fall of the Berlin Wall, the man who played Michael-FREAKING-Knight, the man at the center of the international TV blockbuster Baywatch? How could I put into words what the man means to hundreds around the world? Instead, I’ll say “Happy Birthday Hoff” and put some of my favorite clips below.

The day he ended communism with a lite brite leather jacket.

Skiing downhill! On safari! What can’t he do?

Oh, it’s you Hoff. It’s you…

If you aren’t already turned on, then watch out! You can’t resist The Hotness that is The Hoff

Happy 70th Birthday Ringo! The peace and love Beatle turns 70 today.

Today’s National Holiday is also an Earworm. Today Prince turns 52! I’m attaching a video of one of my favorite covers, Prince doing Radiohead’s “Creep”.

My first encounter with Prince came courtesy of my cousin and her unusual obsession with the Purple Rain soundtrack. She’d grab her neon green scrunchie, make a high ponytail and choreograph routines to each song. No. Joke.  I still remember all the moves to “I Would Die 4 U” and it was even more amazing than you could ever imagine and thus began my obsession.

29 years ago today John Lennon was gunned down in front of his apartment building in New York City but a fucking asshole.  This brings the sads, this songs brings the smiles, one of my all time favorite Lennon tunes.

Happy Thanksgiving and such. Special Thanksgiving edition Ear Worms today.  Video is kinda shitty but you get the idea. Eat till you pass out!!

Today is Snoop Dogg’s birthday. In honor, smoke a bowl and listen to The Chronic and Doggystyle on repeat.

just another day
