Tonight FMEL (Latin Electronic Music Festival) starts today and runs through Saturday. The 3rd edition of the festival strives to promote Latin American digital music and art. Tonight’s events kick off at the Chicago Cultural Center with a symposium titled “Global Electronic Music – Record Labels and Formats” that will be moderated by Catalina Maria Johnson who hosts and produces Beat Latino on WRTE. The focus of this panel will be on the differences between boutique labels and major labels and independent labels and how they also differ in the distribution of the artist’s music. Each night will be closed out by artists performing at the selected venues. Tonight’s showcase: Antiguo Automata Mexicano, Balun (yay!) with visuals from Andrey Nikolayev and Giroscopio. Cool shit and that’s just day 1. Tomorrow FMEL will be at The National Museum of Mexican Arts and will close out on Saturday at Sonotheque. More coming up on FMEL throughout the weekend.
