There are a great number of conflicts for me in this year’s Lollapalooza line up (Nekko Case vs. Vampire Weekend?! Lou Reed vs. Snoop Dogg?? – That’s just cruel) but one of the highlights in the schedule for me is Federico Aubele.

 The story goes that after sending a demo to Thievery Corporation‘s label, Eighteenth Street Lounge Music, he was signed and shortly thereafter came his first release: Gran Hotel Buenos Aires which was produced by Thievery Corporation. (Side note: Thievery Corporation play Lolla’s first night and are up against The Decemberists – again…choosing this year will be rough).  Federico Aubele’s music is hot.  He infuses Spanish-style guitar (that he plays) with ambient sounds and touches of reggae and tango.  Here’s Postales,  by far one of my favorites:

  2. Postales is my all-time favorite. Last time I went to see him at Schubas it was sold out. The time before that I couldn’t get in either. I give up! I just give up. :(
