E>N>E: Chicago Rocks 06/07 Recap

I’ve been watching the 7 Worlds Collide doc on YouTube via Pitchfork since yesterday so this recap is late. My bad.
We were back in Chicago at Reggie’s this week and you’ll find us there the rest of the month too.

First up were the adorable kids from I Fight Dragons. Wearing shirts representing super heroes and armed with NES controllers and a power pad they rocked out with Heads Up, Hearts Down and The Faster The Treadmill, the latter featuring the band all jumping on a power pad rigged to play music. Very fun. Very cool and creative music.

This was followed by Free Ajents, a hip hop duo from the south side.  Merk & Nasa gave us Challenge of a Pro and Don’t Stop.  They were backed by a drummer and an acoustic guitar.  Pretty sparse description but sonically it was hypnotic, heavy and raw.

Last was Los Pecados de Maria.  Having a personal connection with the band I was looking forward to seeing them live for the first time.  They played No Te Creo and the heartbreak anthem Me Fui.  Lead singer Marialen took the stage dressed in black with thigh high boots and this bitch brought it. She served it on a platter nice and cold for your ass.

Back at Reggie’s next week with Shannon Richardson Band, Ryan Powers and Legion.
