I had the fortune of attending a Q&A session at Invisible Records headquarters a couple Fridays ago to discuss r3 with Martin Atkins, Joanna Quargnali-Linsley and Katie Crain. r3 is a new way of thinking, a new way of teaching, a new way of learning. In short: IT’S REAL.
With 30+ years experience in the music industry and as an educator Martin discussed the difficulties he’s encountered with teaching in a field that changes constantly and how schools fail to keep their students up to date on the latest trends and happenings within their field. Katie Crain brings social media, marketing and arts management expertise and is an organizational guru getting this whole crazy thing sorted and ready. Joanna Quargnali-Linsley brings artist development, management, business strategy, analysis and educational coordination to r3. Together, along with guests working in various fields comprise r3. Classes will be based on the student’s desire and need to learn new skills. Instead of sitting in a classroom and learning the theory first the idea is to get students working in various businesses run and owned by Martin such as a record label, a publishing company, a recording studio, etc. Mention MeanLittleBumbleBee for a special discount. Seriously, do it.
Here’s a video of Martin talking about the educational system:
Check out the site, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
and just one more video to show you how fucking rad this whole thing is:
